Round Up: Another Blazer Edition

My last round up was during the winter so I wanted to share some of my more recent looks during the beautiful Spring weather that we are currently experiencing. Most of my warmer looks include blazers because, as you know (if you follow me on Instagram), I love a good blazer. Blazers are perfect for those cooler mornings and cold offices because you can take it off at any time, assuming you have an office-appropriate top underneath. ?

Disclaimer: Please excuse the wrinkles in this last look. I should have gotten my picture prior to sitting down all day. Anyway, it’s an over-sized button down with jeans and heels. One of my quick and easy go-to Casual Friday outfits.

Three Ways to Style Blush Pants

I love to buy pieces that I can style many different ways. These are the pieces on which I am willing to spend more than I normally would spend. Blush pants, for me, are the equivalent of black pants. They go with everything for every season, contrary to certain “rules of fashion” (whatever that means). This pair is from The Limited and is fully lined so they work for colder temps as well as warmer weather. I actually paid full price for these and that never happens. SN: I am a very cheap shopper, but I am a sucker for pink. Want me to buy it? Make it in pink and it’s sold. Anywho, I probably wear these pants to work every other week, all year long.  Each time I decide to wear them, I have envisioned a completely new look. Today, I am sharing with you 3 of my favorite ways to style these fabulous blush pants for work. I have also linked some options for blush pants.

My exact pants are no longer available since The Limited went out of business, but I found some other cute options here, here, and here.

How would you style your blush pants? Which one of the 3 styles presented is your fave?

Thanks for reading!

When to Invest in Trends

When it comes to clothes, I invest mostly into my work wardrobe because it’s what I wear most. I try to buy pieces that I can wear for both work and play. However, sometimes even when I’m wearing it for play, I still feel like work. When I’m going out for date night or a night out with the girls, I don’t want to feel like work. Although I’m not typically one for trends, this is where (inexpensive) trendy pieces can come in handy. As with anything I wear, when deciding on a trendy item, I make sure that:

  1. It fits my style. I love to take new looks and make it my own. It’s how I stay true to myself with my style.
  2. I am comfortable wearing it. For example, I don’t feel comfortable in revealing clothes so I wouldn’t buy something that I’d be pulling down, pulling up, or covering up all night.
  3. I feel confident wearing it. I have to feel good in whatever I am wearing. I feel secure in who I am. I feel empowered and it shows.  “A compliment is momentary; how you feel lasts all day.”

Off-the-shoulder (OTS) and statement-sleeve tops are currently on trend so when I saw this top, I thought it would be perfect for date night. Blush is one of my favorite shades of pink. And the bell sleeves with ruched detailing gave it the perfect flirty look I was going for. I paired it with jeans (because I refuse to wear anything else when I’m not at work unless absolutely necessary) and floral pumps. Rose gold accessories were created to be worn with blush, so I’m just following the rules.

Weekly Round Up: All the Blazers

Blazers are my jam!! If you follow me on Instagram, you likely know this already. But yes, I probably wear blazers 4 out of 5 days a week.

Here are five reasons why I love blazers:

  1. They provide two completely different looks in one outfit (separate post coming soon).
  2. Blazers gives that polished professional look that I like to have when meeting with clients. I have learned that people treat you how you look. It may not always be accurate or fair, but that’s the way it is. I want to always be taken seriously so I make sure that I carry myself accordingly. This is especially the case for us females who work in male-dominated industries.
  3. They’re good for covering up certain areas, especially the back side of those pants that might have gotten a little snug since you first bought them. 🙂
  4. Blazers are good for toning down a bright outfit or providing a color pop  for a neutral outfit.
  5. They are perfect for layering.

Let’s get started.

Teal, Orange, and Houndstooth. This teal blazer is one that I found at Macy’s several years ago for like $10.  It has the ruched detailing on the sleeves, which I love. Decided to pair it with a sleeveless orange bow top. I wanted to keep the rest of the outfit plain so I added these classic black and white houndstooth pants and black pumps.

Blazer: XOXO | Top: The Limited | Pants: Old Navy | Shoes: BCBGeneration

Navy, Green, and Pink.  I felt like a little print mixing so I paired this navy and white striped blazer with this navy and white gingham button up. I love navy and green together so I added these green pants and of course I had to have some pink in here somewhere so…

Blazer: H&M | Shirt: J. Crew | Pants: The Limited | Shoes: ALDO

Red, Aqua and Gray. This is a situation where I used the gray blazer and shoes to tone down an otherwise bright outfit.

Blazer: H&M | Top: Express | Pants: The Limited | Shoes: Nine West

Gray, White and Floral. This white sweater has nice lace details and the sleeves are sheer lace, which makes it inappropriate for work (IMO), but totally appropriate for an event that I was attending after work. Adding the blazer made it  easy to transition this outfit from work to an evening event. I wanted my floral shoes to be the focal point of this Casual Friday outfit so I made everything else neutral. Tip: Cuffing your jeans can also help achieve this effect.

Sneaker Love

I used to be a MAJOR sneaker head growing up. I wanted every pair of Nike Air Max that came out. My parents and boyfriend (now hubby) supported this addiction. But then I graduated college and had to start adulting, which meant getting a job. I am in IT so my first two jobs allowed me to wear whatever I wanted. However, I quickly learned to start dressing for the position I wanted, not the position I currently had. It was then that I discovered the beauty of a pair of heels and how I could get that same feeling AND appear taller at the same time! It’s been on and poppin’ ever since.

Anyway, this meant that I rarely got the chance to wear sneakers anymore so I don’t bother buying many of them these days. BUT THESE?!?! I had to have. You know how on cartoons, you see the character’s heart eyes pop out of their heads on a spring (like the ? emoji on crack) when they see something/someone they really love? Yeah that was me with these Rose Gold Nike Air Max.

Shoes: Nike (exact, exact)

I couldn’t wait to style these babies. I didn’t want anything taking away from them so I went for as basic as I could get. A plain white tee and white jeans with matching rose gold accessories. But don’t look at me. Look at the shoes. ?

BTW, it was cold as all get-out when we took these pics!!! See the bumps on my arm? LOL!!! Shout out to my girl, Latoya! She’s the best. #fashionbloggerlife

Weekly Round Up: All The Prints

It has been interesting seeing all my outfits together in one place. I had never done that previously.  I never plan what I am going to wear, hence “Styled By the Spirit.” I usually just go with what I feel. I wish I was better about planning my outfits for the week, but it just doesn’t happen. I am very active in the style challenges on Instagram so sometimes I have an idea of a color or print or item of clothing that I will build the outfit around. Other times, I just go with something and usually end up hitting a few challenges without even trying. Ha!

Remember to use the following codes for additional savings:

  • Poshmark – sign up using HZTPM and receive $5 off your first purchase
  • Boho Betty – use PINKANDGABULOUS at checkout for 20% off your entire purchase

Now let’s get into it. Based on the sweaters everyday, you can tell that Winter returned. It got back down into the 30’s and I was not happy, but at least it gave me one more chance to wear my cute coats (not pictured). But it looks like sweaters and prints were the theme for this week.

Black, White, and Pink. Even though I am an avid lover of color, this combo is my all time favorite. A classic black and white look with a pop of pink is everything. Add stripes to the mix and you get perfection.

Sweater: Old Navy (option)| Skirt: Old Navy (exact) | Shoes: BCBGeneration (exact, similar) | Necklace: Lia Sophia (similar) | Bracelets: Boho Betty (exact)

Spring Plaid and Pearls. I love pairing pearls with a plaid button down. It completes the look. And these pink snake print pumps are my all time favorite pumps. They’re really old and unfortunately I couldn’t find anything even remotely similar. 🙁

Sweater: Rue 21 (similar) | Shirt: J. Crew (option) | Pants: The Limited (option) | Shoes: Nine West | Necklace: Express (similar) | Watch: JORD (exact)

Houndstooth Island Paradise. This pretty aqua color is one of this year’s fashion colors for Spring. Contrasted it with this coral floral necklace.

Sweater: Merona (option, option)| Pants: The Limited (option) | Shoes: Rampage | Necklace: J. Crew (exact)

Coral and Green for Casual Friday. I love these colors together. And it’s obvious that I can’t go a week without leopard.

Sweater: Old Navy  (option, option)| Jeans: Old Navy (exact) | Shoes: Nine West (exact, exact, option)| Bracelets: Boho Betty (exact) | Monogram Necklace: Frou Frou & Frill (exact) | Tassel Necklace: Macy’s (option, option)

Hope you enjoyed this week’s round up! BTW, either my camera is awesome or it’s junk because if my sweaters looked even remotely close to this raggedy, they would be in the trash.

Have a fabulous weekend, yall!

Weekly Round Up: All The Colors

I have received feedback from you guys here at P&G and on Instagram regarding the content for my blog and the majority of you would like to see more content around work wear ideas. With this in mind, I have decided to do a weekly roundup of my work outfits. I will provide the details of each piece and if something I’m wearing is old and no longer available, I will provide options that will help you to re-create the look. BTW, my favorite place to find things that have sold out or are no longer available in stores is Poshmark. Poshmark is my jam! If you haven’t joined, use code HZTPM and receive $5 off your first purchase.

If you are new to P&G, you will learn two things about me:

1.) I’m cheap. You can call it frugal or thrifty or any of the other lil fancy words for it if you want, but that’s the bottom line. I never pay full price for anything over $30 unless it’s shoes. In that case, it’s nothing over $31. LOL. I kid. But yeah, I’m a bargain shopper to the core.

2.) I buy a lot of staple and classic pieces because I like to mix and match and I like to be able to wear my clothes for years.

So now that you know that I’m an El Cheapo who likes classic pieces, let’s get into this week’s round up.

Houndstooth for Casual Friday. I LOVE this houndstooth print sweater. The colors bring so many possibilities. I chose dark skinny jeans and burgundy lace up booties to keep the rest of the outfit simple. Now these booties, I paid full-price for. Only because I knew they would sell out before they went on sale.

Sweater: Target (option, option) | Jeans: Levi’s (option) | Booties: BCBG (pretty close option, option) | Necklace: Bauble Bar (exact)

Olive and Lilac. This olive shirt is an oldie from NY and Company. I remember finding it on clearance for like $8. It’s a little big on me, but I couldn’t beat the price for such a pretty blouse so I make it work. Sometimes I wear it with  I paired it with these lovely lilac pants. SN: 95% of my work pants and skirts are from The Limited which no longer exists so I’ll be linking other options for pants.

Top: New York & Company (pretty close option) | Pants: The Limited (option) | Pumps: Nine West (exact)

Mustard, Blush and Navy. Blush and mustard are just meant to be together. The navy blazer gives it a more professional and polished look. Then I brought it all together with my favorite leopard pumps. They are really old, but I found some options for these exact ones on Poshmark.

Blouse: H&M (option, option) | Pants: The Limited (option) | Blazer: H&M (option) | Pumps: Vince Camuto (exact)

Coral, White and Gray. These pants and blouse are both clearance finds at Old Navy. I found the pants for $9.99 and the blouse for $4.99. The embroidery and the stand-up collar on the blouse is what got me…not the price. Yeah, right. These silver caged pumps are another full-price purchase because they were so unique and I would not find them again. And guess what? Cannot find them.

Blouse: Old Navy (option, option, option) | Pants: Old Navy (option) | Pumps: Via Spiga (option) | Blazer: H&M (option) | Necklace: H&M (exact in another color)

Mustard, Pink, and Navy. My favorite outfit of the week. It’s so bright and colorful. I love it. Everything is way old except for the booties. I scored these babies after Christmas for half off.

Sweater: Rue 21 (option, option) | Skirt: NY& Company (option, option, option) | Booties: Marc Fisher (exact, exact, exact) | Bow Belt: The Limited (exact)

Thank you so much for your feedback! I hope you enjoy this new round up series!

How to Style The Pink Trench

And just like that, it’s cold again. Boooooo!! It worked out though because I was able to get shots of this coat without looking crazy in the 80 degree weather that it was the day before. Man, I have so much more respect for fashion bloggers now that I know and understand the struggles that that go along with getting good photos (among other things). I was determined to get pics with this coat either way so I would have burned up had it still been warm outside. Lol.

So let’s talk about this pink goodness. This pink trench is perfect for Spring. It’s light, but it can be layered with a sweater and scarf for cooler days. I love it with white pants or jeans because it just makes the color pop even more and yall know I love a pop of color.

These floral pumps went perfectly with the coat, but they go perfectly with almost anything.

Unfortunately, everything I’m wearing is old and not available. However, this is an easy look to re-create. I have linked some great options to get you started.

Coat: NY & Co (option, option) | Pumps: LOFT (option, option) | Necklace: Gorjana (long version)

How to Spring into Spring

I’m so ready for Spring! Well, really I’m ready for Summer, but I’ll settle for Spring. We have not had a terrible winter at all so I can’t really complain, but I just love warmer weather. Plus, I’m tired of layers and boots and scarves and all that jazz. I am ready for some tanks and tees and sandals, and flip flops, and the beach!! Next week is supposed to be 70’s all week and I’m so excited. So how do you dress for this type of weather? Bright colors and ironically, layers.

Man, do these bright yellow jeans make a statement. Give me all the bright colored pants! Wanted to tone it down a bit though so I paired it with this leopard printed tee. Long-sleeved tees are my jam. It is the perfect transition piece. Add leopard to it and you might see me dancing in the store.

Another transition piece is this faux leather jacket. I can take it off or put it on depending on the weather. Plus, I wanted to add some edge to the look. You can’t tell me nothing with this stand up ruffled collar. I have had this jacket for years but I got it at Macy’s and I’ve linked some other cute options that I am stalking. Might be a good weekend to get one as there are some good President’s Day sales going on! 😉

Jacket: Macy’s (old, but options here, here) | Tee: Love Culture (old) | Jeans: True Religion (old, but cute option here) | Booties: Tahari (old)

Fabulousness & Apple Cider Vinegar

Who knew that apple cider vinegar was good for so much? I remember hearing older people talk about taking it, but I never paid it much attention because “it could never happen to me.” Well, let me tell you.  After going through a really tough period of major stomach issues (read about those adventures here), my doctor told me that I had Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) and wanted me to try a couple of medicines for two weeks. I was instructed to take one pill 30 minutes before breakfast each morning and then another type of medicine before going to bed. I was much, MUCH better. So after the two weeks, I called the doctor to update her and to inquire about next steps. The conversation went something like this:

Me: Hi Doc, I just wanted to let you know that the meds work. I feel great. I’m able to eat, sleep, live.
Doc: Oh good! Finally! I’m so glad to hear it!
Me: Me too! I’m so thankful. So, what now?
Doc: Well, you just continue taking the meds.
Me: Ok, cool. For how long?
Doc: For forever.
Me: I’m sorry, whaaaaaaat?
Doc: Yeah. Or unless they stop working. In that case, we’ll switch you to something stronger.
Me: I’m not understanding. So you want me to take these pills for the rest of my life?
Doc: Well it’s important to regulate your acid production levels and the meds will do that.
Me: Yeah, but there’s no way to do that without the meds, like managing my diet or something?
Doc: Not really (blah, blah, blah) *insert Charlie Brown’s teacher’s voice here*
Me: Thanks for your help. I’ll keep you posted. *drop to my knees in prayer* ?

I refused to believe that taking medicines everyday for the rest of my life was the only option. Instead, I chose to believe that the God I serve can do anything, can do all things. So I prayed and gave it to Him, believing that he would fix it or give me the wisdom to understand and accept that the meds were necessary.

One day several weeks later, I was catching up with good friend. We check in with each other via text every few weeks, but we only actually talk every few months. This was one of those talks. I was catching her up on the stomach saga that had been my life over the previous few months. She mentioned that she had been experiencing something very similar and that she’d found that apple cider vinegar helps to control her stomach issues. Just like when I’d read about it previously, I was skeptical about how something that is so acidic could help with an over-production of acid. I was trusting the process so I tried it, at first with the medicines. I drink about a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water everyday. I have not had any meds in almost three months. ?

Sweater: Target (on MAJOR sale) | Jeans: Express (via Poshmark) | Boots: Nine West (old, but options here) | Necklace: Traci Lynn Jewelry | Bag: Kate Spade (sold out, but one left here)

I still don’t really understand how apple cider vinegar helps with this issue, but it works and it’s natural (Bragg’s Organic Apple Cider Vinegar). If you know, please help me understand because I’ll forever be curious to know. In the meantime, here is a list of other great (some surprising) benefits of ACV.

Won’t He do it?
